Questions About Play Therapy, Early Childhood Mental Health, and Parenting Support

How can I find a therapist who understands my child’s early emotional needs?

Look for providers who specialize in early childhood mental health and use play-based approaches that help children feel safe, understood, and connected. At Love Listen and Play, our first session is parent-centered and includes time with your child so we can better understand your family’s needs and begin building comfort and trust. We focus on connection through play, supporting attachment, and helping children develop regulation skills in everyday moments. Sessions are available virtually or in person. Call us to discuss fit and next steps.

What kinds of concerns do you help young children with?

We support young children and families experiencing anxiety, emotional outbursts, behavioral challenges, separation difficulties, trauma, attachment concerns, parenting stress, and major life transitions. Our approach helps children express emotions safely while supporting caregivers with tools that strengthen connection and regulation at home.

What happens at the first visit to keep my child comfortable and supported?

The first visit is a gentle, parent-centered meeting designed to help us understand your child’s experiences, strengths, and the challenges your family may be facing. We also spend time engaging with your child in a way that feels safe and supportive. Our focus is on building trust, creating emotional safety, and sharing simple parenting and play-based strategies that help children feel more regulated and connected.

Will my child be seen by a therapist experienced with young children?

Absolutely. Our team includes associate and licensed clinicians experienced in play-based work with young children. We partner with families to create warm, predictable spaces where children can express themselves through play and practice regulation with adult support.

What if my child has difficulty talking about feelings?

Young children often communicate emotions through play, behavior, movement, and relationships rather than words alone. Play-based therapy allows children to express themselves in developmentally appropriate ways while building emotional safety, regulation, and trust.

Will parent support help me feel more confident and reduce daily stress?

Yes. Our parent support offers coaching and practical tools grounded in play and attachment-focused strategies, helping you feel more confident and calmer at home. We emphasize small, practical steps you can use between sessions to support your child’s regulation and your relationship.

Do parents participate in the therapy process?

Yes. Parent involvement is an important part of our work with young children. We partner with caregivers throughout the process by offering support, guidance, and practical strategies that strengthen the parent-child relationship and support emotional growth at home.

How quickly can we get support so our child can feel better?

We aim to connect with families quickly—often within 24 to 48 hours for an initial conversation. Together, we identify your child’s and family’s most immediate needs, whether that includes play-based support for emotional regulation or caregiver strategies that strengthen connection and attachment. If your situation feels urgent, let us know and we will do our best to prioritize your appointment.

Can we choose in-person or telehealth sessions that fit our family?

Yes. We offer both in-person and secure telehealth sessions and work with families to find an approach that fits their schedule and comfort level. Whether through guided play in the office or supportive activities you can use at home, we focus on strengthening the parent-child relationship while supporting your child’s emotional regulation and development.
